Hema Malini turned 74 today and she still radiates the same charm and aura, that she did during the early days of her career in the early 70s. One of her co-stars and close family friend, Shatrughan Sinha speaks to ETimes on Hemaji's landmark day. He reveals all that he admires and respects about the orginal Dream Girl. He also reveals how Hemaji's beauty and stardom seem eternal. Speaking of Hema Malini's journey in films, Shatru says, "She is a wonderful human being. Her endurance power, her capacity to struggle and survive with great success is highly admirable. In that respect she is a success story of the rarest of the rare." Recalling his friendship with Dharmendra and the much-talked about relationship between his friend and Hema Malini, Shatru says, "Dharam ji is a very dear friend and like an elder brother to me. In my case, it was love at first sight when I saw him for the first time at FTII. And to date, I sometimes feel speechless in front of Dharam ji. Having said all this, the marriage could dent any actor's or actress' image but it did no harm to Hema’s image. She was loved and admired by one and all as the Dream Girl and she remains the Dream Girl even today." Not only was Shatru, Hema Malini's contemporary during the 70s and 80s, they've remained colleagues through their political careers as well. But Shatru feels Hema Malini hasn't been given a fair chance in her political innings. She says, "Fact remains, she has not been treated properly in her political career. With so much seniority, commitment, and dedication to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, whether she says 'yes' or 'no' that’s a different thing altogether, but she has not been given her due. People much junior, rather inferior to her have been given posts and designations, but they didn’t make Hema Malini a Cabinet Minister, which she truly deserves. She has not been made a junior minister, either." He admits that his family shares a close bond with Hema Malini, especially his kids Sonakshi Sinha, Luv and Kush Sinha, too. He reveals, "She is a family friend of ours. She is the most loved lady/aunty of our children. They all admire her. My wife Poonam Sinha often quotes her and talks very highly of her and so do I. She personally called me for this birthday and I wanted to be there. But I got an urgent official meeting in Delhi so I had to come here. But nonetheless, we all love Hema, we admire her. We hold her in high esteem. And we all wish and pray that she remains the simple, down-to-earth, glamour queen. I wish Hema Malini always remains at the top."
