Tinder is preparing for a significant update to enhance user engagement and attract a younger audience, particularly Gen Z. During Match Group's Q2 earnings call, it was disclosed that the dating app will soon introduce "modes" - a new feature allowing users to switch between different dating objectives in real-time, providing a more personalized experience. The company is also in the process of revamping the entire app with a cleaner, faster, and more modern interface. An improved "See Who Likes You" tab is scheduled for release this autumn, aimed at helping users connect with matches they are more likely to be interested in. College-specific features and AI matching To cater to students, Tinder will introduce college-specific search options, enabling users to match within their own campus or selected colleges. This move follows the success of its Double Date feature, which permits users to team up with a friend to match with other couples - 92% of whom were under 30. Tinder is also expanding its AI-powered matching system, initially trialed in New Zealand, which matches profiles based on user data, responses, and even insights from the camera roll. The objective is to move beyond superficial swiping and foster deeper, more meaningful connections. Business context Despite flat revenue of $864 million in Q2 and a 7% decline in paying users, Match Group maintains a positive outlook, forecasting $910–920 million in Q3 revenue. The company is investing $50 million in product development, indicating a strong commitment to reinventing its dating platforms for a new generation.
