The 23-year-old Indian comfortably secured the first game, faced a setback in the second, but managed to clinch the victory with a score of 21-12, 13-21, 21-18, earning a spot in the top four. Earlier in the tournament, Tharun had surprised everyone by defeating top seed Lee Cheuk Yiu from Hong Kong. He is set to play against Malaysia's Justin Hoh in the semifinals on Saturday, a player he had previously beaten earlier this year at the Thailand Open. Lakshya Sen, India's top-ranked singles player and a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympics, also secured a spot in the semifinals after a hard-fought victory over China's Xuan Chen Zhu. Sen, currently ranked 17th globally, won the match 21-14, 18-21, 21-14 in just over an hour. This is his best performance in a BWF World Tour event this season. He will now face Indonesia's Alwi Farhan in the quest for a spot in the final.
